Description

Young members of the 1958 Fillie Softball League smile in a group photo donated by Tom Cross. It was Cross’s daughter, Chris, bottom row, second from left, that first asked him to start a league for girls. The league was part of the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department, who was the department director at that time. The league was formed in cooperation with the Metropolitan Park District of the City of Tacoma, including recreation supervisor for the district, and the first team was created and coached by staff members from each department. Games were played at Heidelberg Park and continue today. Photo donated by Tom Cross.
