Description

This is a black-and-white photo of the 1937-38 Heidelberg basketball team that won the Pacific Northwest championships. Written on the top of the picture there's “city & Pierce County Champions 1937-1938, Pacific Northwest Champions 1938.” Back row (left to right) are: Joe Salatino; unknown, Kellstrom, Hall Lee; Gene Gundersno, Coach Bill Libke. Front row: L-R: Bill Lemmon, Bill Dahlke, Dutch Holsteine, Bob Huegul. Salatino was an all-around athlete and was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 1959. Ten years later, Libke was inducted into the same hall of fame in 1969 for his accomplishments in baseball. Libke, who was born in 1901, was a relief pitcher and played in the minor leagues from 1927 to 1937.
