Description

Virginia Longozo, Alice Wright, Mary Woods and Wanda Silverson -- hat-wearing wives of mechanics for the U-19 Coral Reef hydroplane, pose near the water as another race fan looks through binoculars. The U-19 was owned by Tacoma's Austin Snell. Originally named in 1957 the Miss Rocket (after Snell's gas stations), the name was changed the next year to Coral Reef. Coral Reef's best showing was second place at the 1958 Gold Cup race in Seattle.
