Description

With the team mascot in the center, the players and managers of the 1982 Tacoma Tigers pose for a team photo. The Tigers won the Pacific Coast League's northern division that year and played in the playoffs. They then lost to Spokane in the northern division playoff, losing the three-game series 2-1. The previous year in 1981, the Tacoma Tigers beat Hawaii in the northern division playoff and then lost to Albuquerque in the championship series, losing the three-game series 3-0. In a six-year stretch from 1976 to 1982, the Tigers reached the playoff four times. In 1978, the Tigers were declared the co-Pacific Coast League champs with Albuquerque because the playoffs were rained out. Tacoma's Triple-A team mascot was the Tiger from 1981 to 1994. Players who were Tacoma Tigers during this time and went on to be the American League's rookies of the year were Walt Weiss, Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire.
