Description

The 1973 Tacoma Twins baseball team poses for a team photo. After the Chicago Cubs pulled their Triple A Cubs team out of Tacoma after a five year stay and moved to Salt Lake City in 1970, the Twins replaced them and for five years and they were the Tacoma Twins. But then in 1978 they became the Tacoma Yankees. Through six years, the Tacoma Twins compiled a 422-442 record and didn't win a league championship. Rick Renick, who is in this Tacoma Twins team photo, was a solid infielder and belted 72 home runs in four seasons (1973-76), making him the career home run leader in franchise history. In 1977, Rennick batted .321 with 25 homers and 117 RBI. In the 1977 season, Tacoma Twins first baseman Randy Bass belted four home runs in one game at Phoenix on June 9, 1977. He is one of only six players in PCL history to belt four or more home runs in one game. Jim Nettles, who played on this 1973 Tacoma Twins team, played in the major leagues from 1970 to 1981, playing for the Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics. Stan Naccarato, a successful businessman and strong supporter of local sports, helped keep Tacoma's Triple-A team here in Tacoma. Top Row. L to R: Stan Naccarato, Tom Kelly, Rick Renick, Bob Gebhard, Jim Nettles, Bob Storm, Danny Fife, Dan Vossler, Mark Wiley, Glenn Borgmann, Craig Kusick, Charles Manuel, Eric Soderholm Bottom Row: Jim Strickland, Bob O'Brien, Ken Gill, Jime Hoppe, Ed McMahon, Kerby Farrell, Mike Brooks, Vic Albury, Jim Hughes, Bucky Guth, Buck Chamberlin
