Description

In this black-and-white photo taken around 1920, four soldiers at Fort Lewis, two of them wearing boxing gloves, and a officer in uniform stand together. The photo was donated by Dennis and Jennifer Bullis. Fort Lewis, named after Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804, opened in 1917. Sporting events like boxing are supported by Fort Lewis to help soldiers' moral and to help them stay in shape.
