Born July 30, 1975 in West Point, New York, the basketball standout reached the highest level of the sport when she was drafted by the Sacramento Monarchs in the third round (26th overall) of the 1999 WNBA draft. Starbird is considered one of the greatest basketball players to come out of the Pierce County area where she starred for Lakes High School and is considered one of the greatest scorers in state history; Starbird scored 2,553 career points over her prep career for 29.3 points-per game and helped the Lancers finish in fifth-place at state during the 1992-1993 season. Starbird was named as a National All-American by the Women’s Basketball Association in 1993 where she was named the most valuable player of the all-star game. She played for Stanford University where she again became the all-time leading scorer, this time for the Cardinals where she set the then all-time mark with 2,215 career points (20.9 points-per game); Candace Wiggins broke Stabird’s career points record on January 31, 2008. She was the College Player of the Year in 1997 while playing for the Cardinals. After college she went on to play in the WNBA playing for Utah, Seattle, Sacramento and Indiana. Starbird spent time playing in Spain in 2004 where she continued her high scoring averaging 18.7 points-per game playing abroad. Starbird was inducted into the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
