Pat McMurtry, who was nicknamed “Irish,” was one of the top ranked heavyweights in professional boxing in the 1950s, and he participated in the first Golden Gloves boxing event hosted by the Tacoma Athletic Club in 1949. Clarence McMurtry, father of brothers Pat and Mike McMurtry, who both became boxers, is the fan at ringside that can be seen between the legs of the boxer wearing black trunks. Frank Gillihan is the fan at ringside located between the legs of the boxer in white trunks. Both Pat and Mike have been inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame.Lexicon
