Description

In this black-and-white photo, Ernie Endness (No. 8) and Al Brightman (No.7) of the Tacoma Mountaineers watch a Harlem Globetrotter drive to the basket for a lay-in in an exhibition game played in Tacoma. The Tacoma Mountaineers played in the Pacific Coast Professional League in the 1940s. The Mountaineers were Tacoma's first and only pro basketball team and were led by Tacoma's Marv Harshman and Tom Cross. The Globetrotters started in the 1920s and today travel the world putting on an amusing and athletic basketball game. While parts of these exhibition games are staged, rehearsed and practiced, the outcome of the game is not fixed.
