Johnson was the first of Tacoma's two celebrated Earls of bowling. Earl Johnson and Earl Anthony were inducted into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame. Johnson won his first PBA title in 1960 in San Francisco. He's in the Tacoma Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame.
