Here is a black-and-white picture of the 1948 Fuelers Bowling Team, winners of the first half of the Tacoma Major League. They are, from left to right standing, Earl Johnson, Ted Tadich and unidentified. Squatting left to right, John Artoe, Bill McClelland. Johnson, the first of Tacoma's celebrated “Earls,” was inducted into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame. By the late 1940s, he had won almost ever Tacoma tournament and continued competing into the early 1950s. After serving in the Korean War, Johnson joined the famed Falstaffs team in Chicago, helping them win the 1956 ABC team title.
