Tacoma's Herman Brix signed a color photocopy of a sepia-toned photo from the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam with "Bruce Bennett (Herman Brix)."
Brix, a 1924 graduate of Stadium High School, won the silver medal in the men's shot put in Amsterdam.
Brix was a star offensive lineman for the University of Washington before moving to California and having a successful acting career.
Football, ironically, likely cost him his biggest starring role.
He was chosen to star as Tarzan in 1932's "Tarzan the Ape Man" but separated a shoulder for his uncredited role while filming "Touchdown!" Johnny Weissmuller, a five-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming, ended up being cast as Tarzan.
Brix changed his name to Bruce Bennett and went on to land many roles in movies and television.Lexicon
