Description

Here is a team photo of the 1964 Tacoma Giants minor league baseball team. From 1960 to 1965, Tacoma's Triple-A franchise was affiliated with the San Francisco Giants. The Tacoma Giants were the first team to play in Cheney Stadium. Then from 1966 to 1971, Tacoma's Triple-A minor league baseball team was affiliated with the Chicago Cubs. But after the 1971 season, the Chicago Cubs left town and local businessman Stan Naccarato spearheaded a group of local investors and bought the franchise and worked out an affiliation with the Minnesota Twins. And the Tacoma Cubs became the Tacoma Twins. And for six seasons they remained as the Tacoma Twins, compiling a 422-441 record. Then for one season in 1978 the Tacoma minor league team became the Tacoma Yankees. Then they became the Tacoma Tugs in 1979 and the Tacoma Tigers in 1980. Infielder Rick Renick played for the Tacoma Twins from 1973 to 1976 and slugged 72 home runs, giving him the most career home runs in team history. In 1977, he batted .321 and knocked 25 homers.
