Description

With paper tigers pinned to their lapels, 16 men dressed in suits kneel in front of a painted sign that says, “Baseball Excursion to Yakima.” The Tigers had a doubleheader at Yakima on this weekend that was back in the 1950s. Some of the men are: (back row, third from left) Jim Peterson; (fourth from left) Dill Howell; (sixth from left) Dick Beckman; (eighth from left) Frank Gillihan. (Front row, second from left) Steve Pease. In 1949, Gillihan was the Tacoma Athletic Commission's president. Howell was the owner of Dill Howell's sporting goods store in Tacoma and he was a strong supporter of local sports. Peterson was the TAC president in 1952 and was a longtime board member.
