Description

The Stadium High School basketball is front and center in the Tacoma Armory sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s, though the year is not clear. The Tacoma Athletic Commission sponsored Hoop-go-Rounds, starting in 1943, featuring Tacoma teams as well as those from Puyallup, Fife, Buckley and Enumclaw. The tournaments were jamboree-style events held in December and also played in the Pacific Lutheran University gym and eventually moved into the Memorial Fieldhouse at the College of Puget Sound by 1954 after the facility was opened in 1949. The tournaments continued into the 1990s as part of the TAC’s slate of events, which included Grid-go-Round football jamborees and Golden Gloves boxing competitions.
