A large crowd relaxes on the perimeter of an empty dance floor at the Tacoma Athletic Commission’s Top of the Ocean. Top of the Ocean was a popular club and restaurant resembling a luxury ocean liner. The TAC purchased the facilit in 1948 and made it its headquarters until 1951. In 1977, a fire set by an arsonist extensively damaged the structure. In 2007, a bronze monument honoring the Top of the Ocean was installed at the site. The TAC was among the sponsors.Lexicon
