Description

From the 1940s, stands the 54 employees of the Tacoma Times newspaper. The staff was wearing western costumes complete with cowboy hats and bonnets. The photo was taken in front of the Tacoma Times at 9th and Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma. It was part of the Tacoma centennial celebration. Elliott Metcalf stood in the back row of the picture. Metcalf later became a sports writer and columnist for the Tacoma News Tribune. In addition to being a popular sports columnist, Metcalf also did broadcasts of local boxing matches. Over the years, Metcalf was best known for his column “On the Lam.” The Tacoma Times was published from 1903 to 1949.
