Description

Jack Thompson, former quarterback for Washington State University, accepts an unidentified award. Thompson, a 1974 Evergreen High of Seattle grad, set numerous Pac-10 and NCAA records while at Washington State. As a senior in 1978, Thompson finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting after finishing with 7,818 passing yards. He set Pac-10 records for attempts, completions and TD passes, was named all-conference three times and a three-time All-American from 1976-78. Thompson, who was nicknamed ‘The Throwin’ Samoan’ was the first quarterback selected in the 1979 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played for the Bengals for four seasons, which included the Super Bowl Season in 1981 in which Cincinnati lost to the San Francisco 49ers. Thompson went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1983-84.
