Description

Standout distance runner Gerry Lindgren, a graduate of Rogers High School of Spokane, is shown at an unidentified awards dinner. Lindgren went on to win 11 NCAA championships for Washington State University. Lindgren sprained an ankle during training for the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He finished ninth in the 10,000 meters in Tokyo. In 1965, Lindgren and Billy Mills, who won the gold medal in the 5,000 in Tokyo, both broke the world record for the 6-mile run at the AAU national championships as they finished in a dead heat at 27:11.6
