Description

County and Golf Club on Oct. 24, 1947. Congdon had recently won the Intercity Golf Sweepstakes Association Tournament at the Maplewood Golf Course in Renton. Congdon scored a 5-under par. Congdon's career last four decades, from 1930s-1960s. He was the club professional at Tacoma Country and Golf Club during that time and was instrumental in forming the Pacific Northwest Section PGA and served three times as its president. He also served as vice-president of the PGA of America from 1955-57. Congdon was the recipient of several awards including the having the PNW Section PGA of America’s top amateur honor named after him, The Charles Congdon Award. The PNW Section elected him Golf Professional of the Year. He was inducted into the PNW Golf Hall of Fame in 1981 and the Washington State Sports Hall of Fame in 1978 and the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame. Photo donated by Shanaman Sports Museum.
