Description

Dick Greco played for the Tacoma Tigers from 1946 to 1957 and was one of the most powerful hitters who played for the Tigers. In 12 minor league seasons from 1946 to 1957, Greco smacked 333 home runs, averaging about 27 homers a season. In the four seasons he played for the Tacoma Tigers in the Western International League from 1946 to 1950, he belted 126 home runs. That's about 25 homers a season. Greco, who grew up in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium in 1943, had a tremendous season for the Tacoma Tigers in 1950. In 148 games, the 6-3, 215-pound out fielder led the league in hits (203), total bases (363), home runs (36) and RBI (154). He led the league in home runs four times. He hit .300 or better in 10 of the 12 years he played. He is considered to be one of the most prolific home hitters from Tacoma and is considered to be “the Babe Ruth of the Bush Leagues.” But despite his power and his high batting averages, he never played in the major leagues.
