Name/Title

F. Eugene "Gene" Fowler Roll-top Desk

Description

This oak roll-top desk belonged to F. Eugene "Gene" Fowler. Together with his wife, Sadie, he established the present Shaw Store in 1924. In that same year he became Postmaster of Shaw Island and served in that post until he retired at 70 years of age. Gene was instrumental to establishing the Shaw Cooperative telephone line, the Shaw Island Park, and the building of our current ferry slip, much of his work done from this very desk. The Fowler family operated the Shaw Store until 1958.
