Description

This may be an early image of Shelburne Shipyard in Shelburne Bay, Shelburne, Vermont. There are multiple large buildings, some of which are right on the waterline. 300 plus men and women are standing on the bank looking out to something to the right just outside the view of this image on Shelburne Bay, Lake Champlain. In the center of the photograph, there appears to be docks piles on-shore for the winter season. Located just above the word 'harbor', there are two cylindrical items that appear to be large boilers which would have been used to generate steam on a boat. The steamboat 'Ticonderoga' built in Shelburne Shipyard in 1906 has such boilers. There are three men in a guideboat on the water in the right of the photograph who appear to be looking to something off to the right out of view of the image The Shelburne Historical Society has a digital image in a TIFF file format providing more image detail when enlarged. The Shelburne Museum the original gelatin silver print.
