Shelburne town records began in 1787 and were handwritten as the events happened page by page as they occurred. As the the activities of the town and number of records increased, the separation of the types of records, i.e. meeting minutes, vital records, etc., separated into collections of the same types of records.
The volume 'Copies of Town Meeting Records' was created through the Historical Records Survey begun in 1936 under the direction of the Works Project Administration. The objective of the Survey was to discover and preserve materials important to the research of American history. The information contained in this book is the typewritten records from the original records in Volume 1 through 5.Context
The original town records in Volume 1-5 have been preserved. The Copies of Town Meeting Records, being typewritten copies of the original record pages allows the researcher ease of use eliminating the need to interpret the original records script.
