Rectangular basketware box with lid. "Handwoven, made of straw. Floral design painted on lid. Chinese circa 1900". Made of unknown material - possibly raffia or similar material. Base and lid woven in plain weave in rectangular shape with rounded corners. Hinges made of metal wire. Sides of basket are slightly open having groups of fibres bunched together which are tied at the center forming a design. The lid has a painted floral design in colours of dark green, silver, yellow, purple, and red. Colours are faded in some areas. A narrow braid - similar to soutache braid edges the lid's perimeter and is held in place with thread. Outer edge of top and base of lid and of side edges is wrapped with a lighter coloured material. Two stays are visible on the sides which help support the sides.Acquisition
