Metal cake box, rectangular with designs on sides in colours of cream and black. Pictures are reproductions of engravings. "SCHEPPS CAKE BOX" has a door on one side which is hinged and held by a catch on the other side. Inside there is one metal horizontal shelf. Back has perforated holes to allow air circulation. Inside of door has writing on it - "Economy & cleanliness go hand in hand, a good housekeeper is a promoter of happiness".
Writing on inside of door continues - "Schepps Cocoanut is sold on it's merits, only some dealers sell inferior cocoanut claiming it as good as Schepp's. The reason why they do this is because they receive scheme presents, prizes, etc. Schepp's Cocoanut is used by First Class Families and Housekeepers who do not care for premiums but prefer quality. A good article is appreciated for what it is.
" Circular illustration on top "Lili" - girl in garden with animals, writing below is indistinguishable. One side panel depicts "Dorothea" - Dorothea in the midst of her responsibility of aiding the immigrants in returning to their homes after the ravages of war were over. Picture below this "Schiller at Weimar. From the painting by Lindenschmit, representing Schiller reading his plays to a circle of friends at Weimar. In the group are such historic personages as the art-loving Duke Charles Augustus, Humboldt the historian herder and Goethe, and a number of notable women of the day, including Schiller's wife Corona Schroter and the writer Frau von Laroche". On other side there is a similar picture of Dorothea and illustration "Goethe at Weimar. From the painting by Kaulbach, representing Goethe in Greek costume, as Orestes in the representation of his play 'Iphiginia', or Weimar. We see Goethe at the close of the performance in which the Duke Charles Augustus has played the part of Pylades, surrounded by his admiring and distinguished friends, being crowned with a laurel wreath and receiving their applause and adulation".
Front door depicts "Lotte". "Painting by Kaulbach, Representing Lotte in Goethe's "Sorronis of Werther". She is dressed for a ball awaiting Werther, and he arrives to find her in the midst of her brothers and sisters cutting bread for their supper."Acquisition
