lady's glove stretchers, probably part of a dressing table set. Steel blades plated with shiny silver-coloured metal connected by small spring. Stamped on upper side "STEEL." Two-part, thin guage metal, hollow handles, elongated teardrop shape. Embossed on both sides, elaborate leafing scroll-and-lattice design, with scrolled cartouche area at proximal end for an engraved initial or monogram. On underside of handle, in the lattice design area, are two sets of hallmarks, the maker's mark: "G &C L [possible with a superscript "D" following the "L"] and three hallmarks, an anchor, a lion passant, and a lower case "h." The first two identify Birmingham as the origin of this silver and the third is the year stamp, thought to be before 1903.Acquisition
