Figurine of an Indian bride (from the Lucknow area of India, probably representing a Hindu bride), perhaps intended as a souvenir. Clay head, turned to figure's right, padded cloth body and hands with exaggerated fingers, light skin tone, hand painted features, brown eyes, deep red lips. Jhoomar (fan shaped Hairpiece) on figure's left side made of small pearl beads with gold and red accents. Maang Tikka pendant (as opposed to a Borla, which is not pendant shaped at its end) also made of small pearl beads with gold and red accents placed in middle of head to part hair. Pearl/gold Bridal Nath attached to left nostril (Bridal Nath traditionally attached to left nostril, chain still attached to show no loss of virginity). Head scarf of rose pink silk chiffon, with gold braid trim and fringe, and scattered gold bullion thread rosettes, is draped on figure's left side and over head, like a shawl (however hair is not entirely covered). Elaborate pearl/gold Raani Haar (neckpiece), forms choker necklace and bib front (made to look like pearl out of tradition) made of small pearl beads with gold and red accents (on ends). Fitted tunic of [now] rose pink rayon satin (fabric has faded throughout, but was originally bright pink), with decoration of gold rosettes and gold braid folded into points. Elaborate gold decoration forms cuffs. Pants of the same fabric have very exaggerated flared bottoms from just below the knee, with more gold decoration, the effect being more like a long skirt than pants. Mounted on a two-tiered, square black wooden base, with green felt attached to base. Long hair in a single braid down back (hair intertwined with ribbon that would have traditionally had tassels protruding from the ends of the ribbon, however appears tassels have fallen off due of the condition of the ends of the ribbon). Clothes appear to be nailed on with brads, placed to keep them arranged properly. Clothes hand sewn.Acquisition
