Needlework kit in the form of a flip-top lid box covered with "art-deco" style floral paper printed in teal-mustard-light green-beige. Interior paper lining printed in teal with a reproduction of loosely-woven fabric such as cheesecloth. Lid has attached needleholder containing two needle. In the main part of the box is another needle holder, with several needles, with label: "Superfine Needles/for/Sewing and Art Work/Made in England.". In another compartment in the box, but probably put there because it fits, is a fat bullet-shaped traveling sewing kit made of ivory enamel over brass [similar to the premiums put out by such companies as Calvert Whiskey]. This kit is in two parts. The lid is finished with a multi-coloured thread tassel. The kit contains a brass thimble, a small wooden spool wound with black and white threads and closed at one end with a brass cap that closes the hollow centre containing two brass safety pins, one straight pin and one glass-headed pin. "Made in Germany" is stamped on the flange of base. Also in the box, but probably not original to it, are three metal crochet hooks in fine sizes. One, enclosed in a tapering silver metal sheath, has three pivoting ends, two hooks of different, fine, sizes and an awl. The two not in use pivot into the handle end. Another has a single shaft, with a fine hook at one end and an awl at the other and this shaft pivots to change the tool and the portion not in use is held in place in the handle with a brass tab that slides along the two sides of the wire handle. The third has a twisted, japanned metal handle with a fine hook. These tools fit where possibly scissors may have fitted.Acquisition
