Royal portable typewriter and case. Serial Number 0 -- 381509. Black enamel metal case. White keys. Back panel of typewriter has gold "Royal" logo decal and, in gold, "Royal Typewriter Co, Inc, N.Y./Protected by American and Foreign Patents./Made in United States of America". Black typewriter ribbon with one metal spool marked "Made in Canada" [may not be original ribbon, since one spool is plastic and ribbon appears unused]. In addition to the usual keys, there are also the Pound currency sign and the Japanese Yen sign, as well as the Dollar sign. Small key for case lock attached with twine to chassis. Case is wood covered with black faux leather bookbinder cloth. Typewriter held into brown bookbinder cloth lined base with brown enamelled clamps released by four levers. Removeable lid, similarly covered and lined, fits into two hinges on back of case base. Brown enamelled metal clamp inside top lid, probably to hold instruction book or other information. Also a rubber bumper pad to protect platen knob. Handle is missing and has been replaced by several loops of green twine. Nickel plated closure is both push lock and hasp. Small black pad foot [plastic?]at each corner of underside of base.Acquisition
