Painting resembles the CPR coastal steamship, the Princess Mary, but ultimately appears to be the artist's depiction of the boat's category silhouette and not referencing a specific vessel. Found in a second-hand shop, Sidney.
Information regarding the painting from the book "E.J. Hughes Paints Vancouver Island" by Robert Amos
"When he was awarded the Emily Carr Scholarship in 1948, Hughes set out to gather subject matter on Vancouver Island and began at Sidney. He frequently painted the jaunty little steamships that arrived there from Anacortes, San Juan Island, and the Gulf Islands... "The Car Ferry at Sidney" (1952) show the "MV Motor Princess", which sailed between the town of Sidney and nearby Anacortes Island, part of Washington state. Hughes painted the choppy water of the harbour on a blustery day, and it is the scene of a lot of action."Acquisition
