The Brooklands Automobile Racing Club was founded in 1906 by Lord Lonsdale, with Kenneth L. Skinner serving as its long-time secretary, to organize and oversee motor racing at the newly built Brooklands track in Surrey. Its purpose was to provide a formal body to manage competitive automobile racing and events at Brooklands, which Hugh Fortescue Locke King had constructed as the world’s first purpose-built banked motor racing circuit. The club played a central role in promoting British motorsport, staging races and fostering the development of the automobile industry at a time when low speed limits restricted public roads. The Brooklands Automobile Racing Club continued its activities until 1940, when it was disbanded following the closure of Brooklands due to World War II.Collection
