Scope and Content

This poster displays An Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 tearing through the Sicilian countryside during the 1968 Targa Florio. The race was shaped by the absence of Ferrari, which boycotted the 1968 World Sportscar Championship in protest of new FIA regulations. This opened the door for a fierce battle between Porsche and Alfa Romeo, with Porsche fielding its new 907 and Autodelta entering the updated Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2. Despite strong early pace from Alfa Romeo and local hero Nino Vaccarella, who retired after an accident on lap three, Porsche ultimately dominated the overall race. However, this race proved to be a strong showing from the Alfas, with T33/2s placing first and second in the P2.0 class, putting the leading Alfa just behind a singular Porsche in the P3.0 class by a margin of three minutes.
