Clive Baker was a British sports‑car and Formula 5000 driver best known for his work as a factory driver for the Donald Healey Motor Company in the 1960s. Born 1 August 1942 in Torquay, he first made his mark in 1962, driving an Austin‑Healey Sprite in national UK events, where he earned several class wins. He soon graduated to international endurance racing, making his Sebring debut in 1963 and his Le Mans debut in 1964. Baker’s best Le Mans result came in 1967, finishing 15th overall with co‑driver Andrew Hedges, again in a Healey‑built Sprite. He also scored a strong 13th overall at Sebring in 1967, marking his peak as a works endurance driver.
In the 1970s, Baker transitioned into Formula 5000, competing in Britain and Europe between 1969 and 1974. His F5000 career included 57 race starts, though without wins or podiums, driving machinery such as the McLaren M10B and March 73A, typically Chevrolet‑powered. His participation included non‑championship Formula 1 events like the Race of Champions and the World Championship Victory Race at Brands Hatch. While not a front‑runner in single‑seaters, Baker remained a respected privateer with a long, steady career across sports cars and F5000.Collection
