Robert E. Berry (usually listed as Bob Berry) was a British amateur racing driver active from 1954 to 1958, competing almost exclusively in Jaguars. He entered 54 documented events, finishing 47 of them and retiring only three times, an exceptional 94 percent finishing rate. His primary machinery was the Jaguar D-Type, which he drove in 28 races, most often in chassis XKC 403. He also raced XK120s and Mk VII saloons. Across his career, he earned 8 wins, 2 additional class wins, 9 second‑place finishes, 6 thirds, and 1 pole position, making him one of the most successful private Jaguar drivers of the mid‑1950s.
Berry’s racing was concentrated in the United Kingdom, with frequent appearances at Oulton Park, Goodwood, Silverstone, Aintree, and Snetterton. He occasionally co‑drove with notable Jaguar figures such as Norman Dewis, Ninian Sanderson, and Ron Flockhart. His career reflects the classic 1950s Jaguar privateer story: fast, reliable, and deeply tied to the factory’s culture. Outside racing, he later became a long‑serving Jaguar public‑relations figure and eventually a company director, but his D‑Type years remain his most visible motorsport legacy.Collection
