Domenick “Dom” Billera was born on October 15, 1946, in New Jersey and became an American open‑wheel racer active from the late 1960s through the early 1980s. His professional results appear mainly in Formula Super Vee and the USAC Mini‑Indy Series, where he entered 46 documented races between 1974 and 1980. Although he recorded no wins, podiums, poles, or fastest laps in period professional competition, he was a steady and committed competitor who drove Modus and Argo chassis in Super Vee. After stepping back from pro racing, he became a major figure in vintage open‑wheel racing, where he was widely respected for both his driving and mechanical skill. He won the Monoposto Formula 70 championship three times (1997, 1998, and 2000), becoming known nationally as an expert on Formula Super Vee cars.
Outside racing, Billera had a long engineering career with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, specializing in acoustical engineering and highway noise‑barrier design. He continued racing and restoring vintage open‑wheel cars until his death on April 21, 2006, at age 59, after a battle with leukemia. Among vintage racers, he is remembered as a skilled driver, meticulous craftsman, and generous member of the community.Collection
