Albert R. Bochroch was a motorsports photographer, journalist, and author whose work documented some of the most important racing events of the 1950s through the 1970s. Born in 1909, he became one of the first Americans to report European race results to U.S. audiences, beginning in the 1950s. His photography covered major endurance races such as Le Mans and Sebring, as well as Grand Prix, Can‑Am, and Bahamas Speed Week events, producing nearly 12,000 negatives now preserved at the Revs Institute. His images featured leading drivers including Phil Hill, Jackie Stewart, Carroll Shelby, Stirling Moss, Roger Penske, and Dan Gurney.
Bochroch was also a respected author whose books helped introduce American readers to the history of international motorsport. His works include American Automobile Racing: An Illustrated History, Americans at Le Mans, Trans‑Am Racing 1966–85, and American Cars of the Seventies. His articles appeared in Autocourse, Motoring News, Car and Driver, Sports Car, Autoweek, and Road & Track, earning him multiple national journalism awards. He died in 1989, leaving behind one of the most comprehensive photographic records of mid‑century racing.Collection
