André Boillot was born on August 8, 1891, in Valentigney, France, and became one of Peugeot’s leading racing drivers in the years following World War I. Among his greatest achievements were victories in the 1919 Targa Florio, the 1922 and 1925 Coppa Florio, and the 1926 Spa 24 Hours. He also competed in the Indianapolis 500 three times between 1919 and 1921 and earned a reputation as a skilled road racer and hill-climb competitor. After the war, he resumed racing, served as a military aviator, and later worked as a test pilot.
Despite his success, Boillot never achieved major results at Indianapolis, retiring from all three of his starts due to crashes or mechanical problems. His racing career ended tragically when he crashed a Peugeot during practice for the Ars-La Châtre hill climb in France. He died from his injuries on June 5, 1932, at the age of 40. While often overshadowed by his older brother, fellow racer Georges Boillot, André established his own legacy as one of France’s notable interwar racing drivers.Collection
