Chuck Bown was one of the most successful West Coast stock‑car drivers of his generation, building a long career that stretched from the early 1970s through the late 1990s. Born February 22, 1954, in Portland, Oregon, he made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at age seventeen in the 1972 Winston Western 500 at Riverside, driving his father’s Plymouth. Over 73 Cup Series starts, he earned 4 top‑tens and 1 pole, with his best season-long Cup finish coming in 1979. His greatest achievements came outside the Cup level: he won the 1976 NASCAR Winston West Championship and later became a dominant force in the Busch Grand National Series.
Bown’s peak came in the Busch Series, where he ran 187 races, scoring 11 wins, 73 top‑tens, and 11 poles, and capturing the 1990 NASCAR Busch Series Championship. He also competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, earning 13 top‑tens in 35 starts with a best season finish of ninth in 1997. Known for his smooth driving style and technical consistency, Bown remained competitive across three decades and multiple NASCAR divisions. He retired after 1999 and is a member of the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame.Collection
