Scope and Content

Both illustrations depict the Chaparral 2J, the radical “sucker car” engineered by Jim Hall and General Motors Research. The first drawing shows the car from the front‑left, emphasizing its low, slab‑sided body, open cockpit, and the large side intakes feeding its auxiliary engine. The second focuses on the rear, where the two large fans dominate the design—driven by a separate two‑stroke engine to draw air from beneath the chassis, creating constant downforce regardless of speed. Both pieces are highly technical, monochrome renderings that highlight the 2J’s experimental engineering and its place as one of the most innovative machines in motorsport history. Illustrations by John M. Peckham.
