Cliff Allison was a British racing driver born on February 8, 1932, in Brough, Westmorland, England. He began racing in the early 1950s with Lister before joining Colin Chapman’s Lotus team, making his Formula One debut in 1958 at Monaco. Allison helped Lotus gain recognition and later joined Ferrari in 1959, where he achieved his best F1 finish—fourth place at the Belgian Grand Prix. He also finished second in the 1958 12 Hours of Sebring with Jean Behra.
Allison’s career ended early due to two major crashes. He was seriously injured during practice at Monaco in 1960 and again at Spa-Francorchamps in 1961, which forced his retirement. He never returned to competitive racing. Cliff Allison died on April 7, 2005.
