This promotional poster showcases a collaboration between McLaren and Ford, featuring a vivid yellow McLaren Mustang alongside a McLaren open-wheel race car, both poised on a racetrack. The Mustang, a heavily modified Ford with aggressive bodywork, hood scoops, and gold mesh wheels, symbolizes street performance infused with racing pedigree.
The McLaren Mustang, officially known as the M81 McLaren Mustang, was a rare performance variant of the 1980 Fox-body Mustang, developed by McLaren Engines and Ford’s Special Vehicle Operations. Conceived by Gary Kohs’ Marketing Corporation, it debuted in 1980 as a showcase for Ford’s 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, which McLaren extensively reworked to deliver 130 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. The car featured wide-body steel fenders, brake ducting, a functional heat-extracting hood, BBS wheels, Koni shocks, and a bolt-in roll barSilodrome. Only 10 were built due to its steep $25,000 price tag and internal Ford politics, making it one of the rarest Mustangs ever produced.Collection
