The Penske PC-23, pictured here, was a dominant IndyCar chassis designed by Nigel Bennett for the 1994 CART season, powered by the Ilmor-Mercedes-Benz 500I turbocharged V8 engine that famously produced over 1,000 horsepower during the Indianapolis 500. The number 2 car was driven by Emerson Fittipaldi, a two-time Formula One World Champion and 1989 Indy 500 winner. The PC-23 raced in the CART IndyCar World Series, including the 1994 Indianapolis 500, where Al Unser Jr. won in a sister car, while Fittipaldi crashed while leading late in the race. Overall, the PC-23 was a technical masterpiece that won 12 of 16 races that season, securing the constructors’, drivers’, and teams’ championships for Penske Racing.Collection
