Title [assigned by archives]: Mother Angelique Hiver In this waist-level painted photograph, Mother Angelique Hiver (1802 - 1881) wears the habit of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament while holding a Bible in front of her chest. Mother Angelique Hiver was superior of the Monastery of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament in Lyon, France from which the first Incarnate Word Sisters came to Galveston, Texas. She answered the call of the Bishop of Texas, Father Claude Marie Dubuis, to send trained nurses to Texas during the cholera epidemic. Mother Angelique trained the first three Sisters, nurses from the Hospital of the Antiquaille in Lyon, to embark on their mission to Texas.
