Description

Title [assigned by artist]: Stations of the Cross Fourteen bas-relief painted carvings of the Stations of the Cross surround nave of the Chapel. Each five-foot-tall Station has a wooden frame with an engraved nickel plate etched with the name of a donor. Letters from Mother Alphonse Brollier, CCVI (1858 – 1939) indicate that the Stations were purchased from Frederick Pustet and Company in 1906. Pustet & Co. was a manufacturer of religious articles—including vestments, statues, Stations of the Cross, and sacred vessels—based in New York and Cincinnati, Ohio. The Stations of the Cross are a series of images of Jesus Christ throughout the day of his Crucifixion. They serve as a contemplative tool that allow the faithful to make a meditative spiritual pilgrimage through the Passion of Christ. CCVI Sisters would meditate on these Stations in the Chapel daily.
