Description

Title of artwork [assigned by archives]: The Incarnate Word This small statue of the boy Jesus, the Incarnate Word, came from the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVI). Jesus is sculpted in painted plaster, wearing a light-yellow gown with an image of the Sacred Heart on his chest. Jesus makes the sign of blessing by holding up two fingers. In the other hand, he holds an orb topped with a cross. This small statue of the Incarnate Word was found in the Music Department of the old Motherhouse at the time of its demolition in 1988. It probably belonged to the choir mistresses, Sisters Infant Jesus Brennan, CCVI (1867-1962) Mary Laurence McBeath, CCVI (1887-1978), and Adelaide Wiedemann, CCVI (1904-2003). It was rescued and given to the Archives by Sister Margaret Fuery, CCVI (1921-2017). The mission of the CCVI Sisters is to make real and tangible the saving and healing love of Jesus, the Incarnate Word. Statues like this serve as a visual reminder of Jesus’s presence in each one of the Sisters’ communities and ministries.
