Description

Title [assigned by artist]: Incarnate Word College Campus Gates – Table Sister Christine Diehl, CCVI (1927 – 2018) [separated Sister – left Congregation in 1977] depicted the different gates surrounding the Incarnate Word College campus on this twelve-tile tabletop. On each tile, Sister Christine depicted one gate and wrote a short accompanying poetic phrase. The tiles are grouted together and sit atop a black iron table frame. The bottom right tile is signed “Sister M. Basil,” which was Sister Christine’s religious name [Sr. Mary Basil of the Blessed Sacrament Diehl] prior to her post-Vatican II name change in 1967. It is possible that Sister Christine painted these tiles while studying for her B.A. in Art at Incarnate Word College from 1955-1956.
