Title of artwork [assigned by archives]: Peruvian Wool Tapestry
This hand-woven wool tapestry depicts four people walking towards a colorful village. Three mountains loom over the village in the background. While the provenance of this work is unknown, it was likely acquired by a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVI) on mission in Peru. The CCVI Sisters arrived in Chimbote, Peru in 1964 to start a ministry which responded to the plight of poverty in Latin America. Today, Peruvian CCVIs oversee the Sisters’ ministries in Chimbote, including the Centro Médico Especializado Santa Clara and Sistema de Salud Verbo Encarnado.
