Permanent Placement at Dickman Mill Park, Tacoma, WANote
Ghost Log is a monumental Corten steel sculpture installed at Dickman Mill Park on the traditional homelands of the Puyallup Tribe. Weaving together industrial history, Indigenous knowledge, and environmental memory, the sculpture honors the former lumber mill that once stood on the site. Made of rusting, self-sealing steel, the form evolves from a massive mechanical gear into an abstract cedar log. Its limbs transform into twined basket forms and culminate in sweeping cedar boughs over the water. Forged words in English and Lushootseed, created in collaboration with the Puyallup Tribal Language Department, are embedded throughout the structure, tying language to land. ; 2022:Washington State chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects; WASLA Award of Honor: Dickman Mill Park Expansion and Head Saw Restoration and Spotlight Award from the Washington Recreation and Parks Association and Spotlight Award for excellence in facility design and construction
