Note

exhibited in three solo exhibitions 2015 Traces; METHOD Gallery; Seattle, WA 2019 Traces; San Juan Islands Museum of Art; Atrium; Friday Harbor, WA 2022 Call to Arms; Vashon Center for the Arts; Vashon, WA

Note

The work was created for an installation at METHOD Gallery where it took up the entire space with sound and written wire script that surrounded the room and went out into the hall. The wire script of 125 linear ft of my foremothers maiden names-all lost in marriage-honored as in a family journal. But like chasing ghosts, each maiden name found is but the name of a father. I then showed the installation in the front atrium at San Juan Museum with the wire script ascending to the rafters. I showed the sculpture alone on a raised 8’ x 12’ platform in the atrium at Vashon Center for the Arts in my Survey Exhibit.

Note

Internally lit, a glowing 10’ pelvic bone upholstered in 13 wedding gowns. Traces is an installation that explores female identity, lineage, and erasure. Originally shown with a sound installation. The sound could be accessed at TAM through a QR code. (Attached) The soundtrack Eternal, a 7 minute sound piece portrays the life cycle. The composition includes heartbeat, rhythm tap dance sounds by my daughter Sammy and tenor sax, composed and performed by my daughter Roxy.

Note

The frame is 1” aluminum tube that slips together. There are multiple pieces, all marked with numbers and registration lines. The lighting is then attached to the frame, and I will have blue tape along the frame where the linear lighting goes. There are two smaller pieces of fabric that attach to the frame, then it gets covered with two large slip covers. One for each side of the frame. There is a metal plate that bolts the two sides together. Then some detailing to hide seams and openings. It takes two people one day to install.
